1 ridge = knit 2 rows.
SHAWL – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked back and forth on circular needle, from side to side.
SHAWL
Cast on 7 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Kid-Silk. Read EDGE STITCHES and GARTER STITCH in explanations above.
ROW 1 (right side): Work 3 edge stitches, 1 garter stitch and 3 edge stitches.
ROW 2 (wrong side): Work 3 edge stitches, 1 garter stitch and 3 edge stitches.
ROW 3 (right side): Work 3 edge stitches, make 1 yarn over, 1 garter stitch and 3 edge stitches. The yarn over is knitted twisted on the next row – no hole.
ROWS 4-8: Work 3 edge stitches, garter stitch until there are 3 stitches left, 3 edge stitches.
ROW 9 (right side): Work 3 edge stitches, make 1 yarn over, garter stitch until there are 3 stitches left, 3 edge stitches. The yarn over is knitted twisted on the next row – no hole.
Repeat rows 4-9 onwards, increasing every 6th row (= every 3rd row from the right side), with 3 edge stitches on each side and increasing numbers of garter stitches in the middle.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When the piece measures 52 cm (approx. 20 cm in width) continue as before but without further increases for 4 cm.
Continue with garter stitch and stocking stitch as before but on the next row from the right side, decrease inside the 3 edge stitches on the same side as the increases were worked and from the right side as follows:
Work 3 edge stitches, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, work garter stitch until there are 3 stitches left, 3 edge stitches.
Repeat this decrease every 6th row (every 3rd row from the right side). There are 3 edge stitches on each side and decreasing numbers of garter stitches in the middle.
Continue working until there are 7 stitches left on the row. Work 2 rows without decreasing and cast off on the next row. The shawl measures approx. 108 cm.
