DECREASE TIP
Begin 3 stitches before marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased).
SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
Worked in the round on double pointed needles from leg down to toe.
To make room for the heel increase more stitches towards the heel while at the same time working the sock, and when the width and length of the heel is reached, decrease heel stitches while working piece towards the toe.
Increases and decreases form a square/diamond at the back of sock.
LEG
Cast on 52-56-60 stitches on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm with Drops Fiesta. Knit 1 round.
Work rib in the round (= purl 2/knit 2) until piece measures 14-15-16 cm. Remember to follow the knitting tension!
Now work heel and foot as explained below.
HEEL AND FOOT
Increase stitches for heel on each side of 18-18-18 stitches mid under foot. Work heel stitches in stocking stitch and work the remaining stitches in rib as before. Insert 1 marker between the first 2 purl stitches on round - this marker should follow the stitches onwards = mid under foot.
1ST INCREASE:
Now increase stitches for heel as follows: Work until 9-9-9 stitches remain before marker, and increase 1 stitch by using left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from round below, pick up the strand from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch, work 18-18-18 stitches in stocking stitch (marker is n the middle of these stitches) use left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from round below, pick up strand from behind and knit stitch in front loop of stitch (= 2 stitches increased). Work the rest of round (until marker = mid under foot).
Next round: Work rib and stocking stitch, finish when 10-10-10 stitches remain before marker - now increase again as explained below.
2ND INCREASE:
Use left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from round below, pick up the strand from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch, knit 20-20-20 (marker is in the middle of these stitches) use left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from round below, pick up the strand from behind and knit in front loop of stitch (= 2 stitches increased). Work the rest of round (until marker = mid under foot).
INCREASE ONWARDS
Increase every other round as explained above until 7-6-5 increases have been done in total, there are 2 stitches more in stocking stitch mid under foot for every increase = 66-68-70 stitches on round and 36-34-32 stitches in stocking stitch mid under foot (= heel stitches), including 2 knit stitches in each side of rib.
Work 1 round over all stitches with rib and stocking stitch, finish round mid under foot. Insert 1 measuring marker in the middle of heel stitches on this round - important - this measuring marker is used to measure the foot length, i.e. do not move this marker when working.
1ST DECREASE:
Now decrease for heel under foot.
Next round: Work in stocking stitch and rib until 17-16-15 stitches remain before marker, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked, knit 30-28-26 (marker mid under foot is in the middle of these stitches in stocking stitch), knit 2 together (= 2 stitches decreased). Work the rest of round (until marker = mid under foot). NOTE! Decrease should be the next to last of the 2 knit stitch from rib on the sock, so that 2 knit stitches follow down along the decrease.
Next round: Work rib and stocking stitch, finish when 16-15-14 stitches remain before marker - now decrease again as explained below.
2ND DECREASE:
Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, work 28-26-24 stitches in stocking stitch (marker is in the middle of these stitches), knit 2 together (= 2 stitches decreased). Work the rest of round (until marker = mid under foot).
DECREASE ONWARDS
Decrease every other round as explained above until 12-11-10 decreases have been done in total; there are 2 stitches less in stocking stitch mid under foot for every decrease = 42-46-50 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch over the 12-12-12 stitches under foot and rib as before over the remaining stitches.
FOOT
Work until piece measures 16-17-18½ cm from measuring marker on heel, measured under foot.
4-5-5 cm remain until finished measurements, try the sock on for desired length before decreasing for toes as explained below.
TOE
Work 2 rounds in stocking stitch. Insert 1 marker in each side of sock so that there are 21-23-25 stitches both on top of foot and under foot (= 2 markers). Work in stocking stitch, AT THE SAME TIME on first round decrease for toes on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every other round 4-5-5 times in total and then on every round 3-3-4 times in total = 14-14-14 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and pull yarn through stitches, tighten together and fasten.
The sock measures approx. 20-22-24 cm from marker on heel – measured under foot. NOTE! The sock is 2-2-2½ cm shorter than foot measurements but will stretch during use.
