DECREASE TIP
Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows:
Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased).
Decrease like this at each marker-thread = 6 stitches decreased on the round.
HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary as you decrease.
HAT
Cast on 84-88-94 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and 1 strand DROPS Melody or 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (or you can work Italian cast-on).
Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 15 cm, in all sizes.
Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 12-10-10 stitches evenly spaced = 72-78-84 stitches.
Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 22-22-23 cm (approx. 10-11-12 cm left to finished length). Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Insert 3 marker-threads with 24-26-28 stitches between each one. Now decrease for the top of the hat – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 10-11-12 times = 12 stitches.
Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
The hat measures approx. 32-33-35 cm from the cast-on edge.
Fold up the bottom 9-9-10 cm. The hat measures approx. 23-24-25 cm with the fold-up.
