WORKING THE HEEL-STITCHES TOGETHER
All rows are worked from the wrong side. Turn and purl the first 13-13-15 stitches from the wrong side. Make sure the working strand lies at the back (on the right side) and work as follows:
LEFT NEEDLE: Knit 2 twisted together, slip the knitted-together stitches back onto the left needle, tighten the strand. Do not turn.
RIGHT NEEDLE: Insert the left needle through the next 2 stitches on the right needle (inserting the needle from left to right, making sure it is behind the right needle), make 1 yarn over on the left needle and pull the yarn over through these 2 stitches (from right to left), slip the 2 stitches off the right needle. Slip the knitted-together stitches back onto the right needle, tighten the strand. Do not turn.
Repeat LEFT and RIGHT NEEDLES until there are 2 stitches on the left needle. The heel-stitches have now been worked together.
DECREASE TIP
Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows:
Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased).
SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked from leg to toe, in the round with double pointed needles.
While working the heel, the other stitches wait. When the heel is the correct length, the heel-stitches are worked together. Then, stitches are knitted up on each side of the heel and the foot is finished in the round, while decreasing on each side of the foot. The toe is worked when the foot has reached the correct length.
LEG
Cast on 52-56-60 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and DROPS Fiesta. Work rib in the round (purl 2, knit 2). Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Work until the leg measures 16-17-18 cm. Now work the heel and foot.
HEEL
Keep the first 26-26-30 stitches on the needle for the heel, place the next 26-30-30 stitches on a stitch holder (top of foot).
Work stocking stitch back and forth. AT THE SAME TIME, on the first row increase 4 stitches evenly as follows: Work 7-7-9 stitches, * make 1 yarn over, work 4 stitches , work from -* a total of 3 times, make 1 yarn over, work 7-7-9 stitches = 30-30-34 stitches. On the next row, work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes.
Work until the heel measures 6-6-6½ cm.
Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row; the foot is measured from here.
On the next row from the right side decrease 4 stitches as follows: Knit 11-11-13, knit together the next 8 stitches 2 and 2, knit 11-11-13 = 26-26-30 stitches. Turn and purl back. Knit 1 row from the right side.
Continue WORKING THE HEEL-STITCHES TOGETHER - see explanation above, working back and forth from the wrong side,.
FOOT
After working the heel-stitches together, turn so the 2 stitches are now on the right needle. Knit up 14-14-15 stitches along the side of the heel, continue the rib across the 26-30-30 stitches on the stitch holder, knit up 14-14-15 stitches along the other side of the heel = 56-60-62 stitches.
Insert 1 marker on each side of the middle 24-28-28 stitches on top of the foot (the markers sit outside 1 knitted stitch on each side).
Continue in the round, with rib across the 24-28-28 stitches on top of the foot and stocking stitch under the foot. Decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker.
Decrease like this every round 4 times, then every 2nd round 4-4-3 times = 40-44-48 stitches.
When the foot measures 17-18-20½ cm from the marker on the heel, continue with stocking stitch in the round.
When the foot measures 18-19-21½ cm from the marker (measured under the foot), there is 4-5-5 cm left to finished length. Try the sock on and work to desired length before working the toe.
TOE
Insert 1 marker-thread on each side of the foot, with 20-22-24 stitches both on top of and underneath the foot. Work stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, on the first round decrease for the toe on each side of both marker-threads - read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 4th round 3 times, then every 2nd round 2-2-3 times, and every round 1-2-2 times = 16 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 8 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-26½ cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot.
