KNITTING TENSION
21 stitches in width and 34 rows in height with moss stitch = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE: Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

EDGE STITCHES
At the beginning of each row work 2 edge stitches as follows:
Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1.
At the end of each row work 2 edge stitches as follows:
Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1.
Repeat at the beginning and end of each row.
MOSS STITCH (worked back and forth):
Row 1: * Knit 1. purl 1 , work from -*.
Row 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit.
Repeat row 2 onwards.
SHAWL – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked back and forth on circular needle, from side to side.
SHAWL
Cast on 5 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Sky. Read EDGE STITCHES in explanations above.
ROW 1 (right side): Work 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and 2 edge stitches.
ROW 2 (wrong side): Work 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and 2 edge stitches.
ROW 3 (right side): Work 2 edge stitches, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 2 edge stitches. The yarn over is worked twisted on the next row – no hole.
ROWS 4-7: Work 2 edge stitches, work MOSS STITCH – read description above, until there are 2 stitches left, 2 edge stitches.
ROW 8 (wrong side): Work 2 edge stitches, moss stitch until there are 2 stitches left, make 1 yarn over and work 2 edge stitches. The yarn over is worked twisted moss stitch on the next row – no hole.
ROWS 9-12: Work 2 edge stitches, moss stitch until there are 2 stitches left, 2 edge stitches.
ROW 13 (right side): Work 2 edge stitches, make 1 yarn over, moss stitch until there are 2 stitches left, 2 edge stitches. The yarn over is worked twisted on the next row – no hole.
Repeat rows 4-13 onwards. You increase every 5th row, alternately from the right and wrong side, with 2 edge stitches on each side and increasing numbers of moss stitches in the middle. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When the piece measures 58 cm, it measures approx. 21 cm down the middle (there are approx. 44 stitches on the needle), continue working in moss stitch with edge stitches as before but without further increases for 3 cm.
Now continue with moss stitch and edge stitches.as before but decreasing inside 2 edge stitches, on the same side of the piece as you increased. Decrease as follows, alternately from the right and wrong side.
Decrease as follows from the right side:
Work 2 edge stitches, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, work moss stitch until there are 2 stitches left, 2 edge stitches.
Decrease as follows from the wrong side:
Work 2 edge stitches, work moss stitch until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2 stitches together and work 2 edge stitches.
Work as before and repeat this decrease every 5th row until there are 5 stitches left on the needle. Work 2 rows without decreasing, then cast off. The piece measures approx. 119 cm.
