KNITTING TENSION
13 stitches in width and 17 rows in height with stocking stitch and 1 strand of each quality on needle size 6 mm = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE: Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches within 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches within 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN
INCREASE TIP-1:
On the right mitten increase as follows:
Knit the first 6-7-8 stitches, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work to end of round (1 increased stitch).
On the left mitten increase as follows:
Knit until there are 6-7-8 stitches left on the round, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work to end of round (1 increased stitch).
INCREASE TIP-2:
INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT from right side:
Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the back loop.
INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT from right side:
Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the front loop.
DECREASE TIP
Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches) slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased).
MITTENS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked in the round from the cuff upwards.
RIGHT MITTEN
Cast on 26-28-28 stitches with double pointed needles size 5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Melody and 1 strand DROPS Puna (2 strands), or work Italian cast-on.
Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 7 cm.
Change to double pointed needles size 6 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 2-3-2 stitches evenly spaced = 24-25-26 stitches. Insert 1 marker, the piece is now measured from here. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Continue with stocking stitch in the round, while increasing 1 stitch on one side of the mitten – read INCREASE TIP-1 and INCREASE TIP-2. Increase like this every 2nd round 5-6-7 times = 29-31-33 stitches.
Knit 1 round. The piece measures approx. 6-7-8 cm from the marker.
Work the next round as follows: Place the first 6-7-8 stitches on a thread/stitch holder, cast on 1 stitch behind the thumb-stitches, knit to end of round = 24-25-26 stitches.
Continue in the round until the piece measures 15-16-17 cm from the marker. On the last round decrease 0-1-0 stitch = 24-24-26 stitches (4 cm to finished length).
Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round and 1 marker-thread after 12-12-13 stitches. Continue working and on the next round decrease on each side of both marker-threads – read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 3 times, then every round 1 time = 8-8-10 stitches On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 4-4-5 stitches.
Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
THUMB
Place the 6-7-8 thumb-stitches from the thread/stitch holder on double pointed needles size 6 mm. Knit up 3 stitches behind the thumb (in 1 stitch before the cast-on stitch, the cast-on stitch and in 1 stitch after the cast-on stitch) = 9-10-11 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round for 6-6½-7 cm. On the next round: Knit 1-0-1, knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5-5-6 stitches.
Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
LEFT MITTEN
Work in the same way as the right mitten but increase as described in INCREASE TIP-1.
When the thumb-stitches are placed on the thread/stitch holder, work as follows:
Knit until there are 6-7-8 stitches left, place these 6-7-8 stitches on a thread/stitch holder, cast on 1 stitch behind the thumb-stitches = 24-25-26 stitches.
Finish in the same way as the right mitten.
