MITTENS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked in the round, from the cuff upwards.
RIGHT MITTEN
Cast on 44-48-52 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 5-6-6 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 10-12-12 stitches evenly spaced = 34-36-40 stitches.
Insert 1 marker in the 11th-13th-15th stitch. Allow the marker to follow this stitch onwards. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Continue with stocking stitch and increase AFTER the marker-stitch – read INCREASE TIP in explanations above.
Increase 1 stitch towards the left AFTER the marker-stitch every round a total of 8-11-10 times, then every 2nd round 6-5-6 times = 48-52-56 stitches.
Work until the piece measures 11-12½-13 cm, the thumb-increases should now have finished.
On the next round place stitches on a stitch holder for the thumb as follows:
Place the first 11-13-15 stitches on a stitch holder without working them, cast on 3 stitches and knit to end of round = 40-42-44 stitches.
Continue stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 19-20½-21½ cm, with approx. 4 cm left to finished length.
Knit and decrease 4 stitches evenly every 2nd round 7 times = 12-14-18 stitches
On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6-7-9 stitches.
Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
The mitten measures approx. 23-24½-25½ cm.
THUMB
Place the 11-13-15 stitches from the stitch holder back on the double pointed needles size 3 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 3 cast-on stitches = 14-16-18 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round for 5-5½-6 cm, with approx. ½ cm left to finished length.
On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 7-8-9 stitches.
Knit 1 round and decrease 2-3-4 stitches evenly spaced = 5-5-5 stitches.
Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
