DECREASE TIP
Begin 3 stitches before marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased).
SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
Worked in the round on double pointed needles from leg down to toe. To make room for the heel increase more stitches towards the heel while at the same time working the sock, and when the width and length of the heel is reached, decrease heel stitches while working piece towards the toe.
Increases and decreases form a square/diamond at the back of sock.
LEG
Cast on 60-64-68 stitches on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with DROPS Fiesta.
Work rib in the round (= knit 2/purl 2) for 4-5-6 cm. Continue with stocking stitch and double pointed needles size 3 mm, AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round decrease 14-16-16 stitches evenly = 46-48-52 stitches. Continue to work until piece measures 14-15-16 cm. Remember to follow the knitting tension!
Now work heel and foot as explained below.
HEEL AND FOOT
Increase stitches for heel on each side of 7-9-9 stitches mid under foot. Insert 1 marker in the first stitch on round - this marker should follow the piece onwards (= mid under foot).
1ST INCREASE:
Work until 3-4-4 stitches remain before stitch with marker and use left needle to pick up strand between 2 stitches from round below, pick up strand from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch, work 7-9-9 stitches (the middle of these stitches is stitch with marker), use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from round below, pick up yarn from the back and knit stitch in front loop of stitch, knit the rest of round (= until stitch with marker = mid under foot).
Next round: Knit until 4-5-5 stitches remain before stitch with marker - now increase again as explained below.
2ND INCREASE:
Use left needle to pick up strand between 2 stitches from round below, pick up strand from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch, work 9-11-11 stitches (the middle of these stitches is stitch with marker), use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from round below, pick up yarn from the back and knit stitch in front loop of stitch, knit the rest of round (= until stitch with marker = mid under foot).
INCREASE ONWARDS
Increase every other round as explained above 7-7-7 times in total, there are 2 stitches more between increases mid under foot for every increase = 60-62-66 stitches on round. Work 1 round over all stitches, finish mid under foot. Insert 1 measuring marker in the middle of heel stitches on this round – important – this measuring marker is used to measure the foot length, i.e. do not move this marker when working.
1ST DECREASE:
Now decrease for heel mid under sock.
Next round: Work until 11-12-12 stitches remain before stitch with marker, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, knit 19-21-21 stitches (the middle of these stitches is stitch with marker), knit 2 together, knit the rest of round (= until stitch with marker = mid under foot).
Next round: Knit but finish when 10-11-11 stitches remain before stitch with marker - now decrease again as explained below.
2ND DECREASE:
Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, knit 17-19-19 stitches (the middle of these stitches is stitch with marker), knit 2 together, knit the rest of round (= until stitch with marker = mid under foot).
DECREASE ONWARDS
Decrease every other round as explained above 11-10-10 times in total, there are 2 stitches less between decreases mid under foot for every decrease = 38-42-46 stitches.
FOOT
Work until piece measures 16-17-18½ cm from measuring marker on heel, measured under foot.
4-5-5 cm remain until finished measurements, try the sock on for desired length before decreasing for toes as explained below.
TOE
Insert 1 marker in each side of sock so that there are 19-21-23 stitches on top of foot and under foot. Work in stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on first round decrease for toes on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every other round 5-6-6 times in total and then on every round 2-2-3 times in total = 10-10-10 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and pull yarn through stitches, tighten together and fasten.
The sock measures approx. 20-22-23½ cm from marker on heel – measured under foot. NOTE! The sock is shorter than foot measurements but will stretch during use.
