PATTERN
See diagram A.1.
INCREASE TIP
INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT (applies right mitten):
Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous round, the strand is picked up from the back and the stitch is knitted/purled through the front loop (the new stitches are then worked into A.1).
INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT (applies left mitten):
Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous round, the strand is picked up from the front and the stitch is knitted/purled through the back loop (the new stitches are then worked into A.1).
MITTENS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles.
If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction.
RIGHT MITTEN
Cast on 42-44-46 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Lima/DROPS Daisy together with 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands).
Work rib (purl 1, knit 1) in the round for 6-7-7 cm.
Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 12-12-12 stitches evenly spaced (do not decrease across the last stitch) = 30-32-34 stitches.
Read PATTERN in explanations above and work as follows:
Work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the round, knit 1. Insert a marker in the last stitch on the round and allow the marker to follow this stitch onwards.
Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Work A.1 with the last stitch knitted until A.1 has been worked 1 time in height, the piece measures approx. 8-9-9 cm.
Now begin increasing for the thumb, read INCREASE TIP in explanations above, as follows:
Work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1.
Increase before the marker-stitch every round a total of 0-3-6 times, then every 2nd round 7-6-5 times = 37-41-45 stitches.
Work until the piece measures 15-16½-17 cm (the thumb-increases should be finished).
On the next round place the thumb-stitches on a thread/stitch holder as follows:
Work as before until there are 10-12-14 stitches left on the round, place the next 9-11-13 stitches on a thread/stitch holder (without working them), cast on 2 stitches and knit the last stitch = 30-32-34 stitches.
Continue A.1 but now across all stitches, matching the pattern to the previous round.
Work until the piece measures 24½-26-27 cm (approx. 9½-9½-10 cm from the cast-on stitches behind the thumb and 2½ cm left to finished length).
Continue with stocking stitch and decrease as follows:
ROUND 1: Knit 2-0-2, * knit 2 together, knit 2 , work from -* to end of round = 23-24-26 stitches.
ROUND 2: Knit.
ROUND 3: Knit.
ROUND 4: Knit 1-0-0, knit the remaining stitches together 2 and 2 = 12-12-13 stitches.
ROUND 5: Knit.
ROUND 6: Knit 0-0-1, knit the remaining stitches together 2 and 2 = 6-6-7 stitches.
Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
The mitten measures approx. 27-28½-29½ cm (12-12-12½ cm from the cast-on stitches behind the thumb).
RIGHT THUMB
Place the 9-11-13 thumb-stitches back onto double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Knit up 3 stitches in the 2 cast-on stitches behind the thumb = 12-14-16 stitches. Work A.1 in the round, continuing the pattern from the mitten. Work until the thumb measures 5-5½-6 cm, there is 1 cm left to finished length.
On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6-7-8 stitches.
Knit 1 round.
Knit 1 round and decrease 2-3-4 stitches evenly spaced = 4-4-4 stitches.
Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The thumb measures approx. 6-6 ½-7 cm.
LEFT MITTEN
Cast on 42-44-46 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Lima/DROPS Daisy together with 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands).
Work rib (knit 1 purl, 1) in the round for 6-7-7 cm.
Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 12-12-12 stitches evenly spaced (do not decrease across the first stitch) = 30-32-34 stitches.
Work as follows:
Knit 1 stitch, work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the round, work the first stitch in A.1. Insert a marker in the first stitch on the round and allow it to follow this stitch onwards.
Work A.1, with the first stitch on the round knitted, until A.1 has been worked 1 time in height, the piece measures approx. 8-9-9 cm.
Now begin increasing for the thumb, remember INCREASE TIP, as follows:
Knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue A.1 to end of round (finishing with the first stitch in A.1).
Increase after the marker-stitch every round a total of 0-3-6 times, then every 2nd round 7-6-5 times = 37-41-45 stitches.
Work until the piece measures 15-16½-17 cm (the thumb-increases should be finished).
On the next round place the thumb-stitches on a thread/stitch holder as follows:
Knit 1, place the next 9-11-13 stitches on a thread/stitch holder (without working them), cast on 2 stitches and work to end of round as before = 30-32-34 stitches.
Continue A.1 but now across all stitches, continuing the pattern from the previous round.
Work until the piece measures 24½-26-27 cm (approx. 9½-9½-10 cm from the cast-on stitches behind the thumb and 2½ cm left to finished length).
