INCREASE TIP
Increase on each side of each marker-stitch as follows: Work until there is 1 stitch left before the marker-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 3 (marker-stitch is the middle stitch), 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On the next round, knit the yarn overs twisted.
DECREASE TIP
Decrease on each side of the marker-stitch as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-stitch, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, knit 3 (marker-stitch is the middle stitch), knit 2 together (2 stitches decreased).
HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. Change to short circular needle when you have enough stitches. Stitches are increased for one top, worked downwards, then decreased for the other top. The hat will look like a tube, closed at both ends. One end will sit inside the other, so the hat is double. The bottom edge is folded up.
HAT
Cast on 6 stitches with double pointed needles size 4,5 mm and DROPS Air.
ROUND 1: * Knit 1, make 1 yarn over , work from - to end of round.
ROUND 2: Knit; the yarn overs are knitted twisted = 12 stitches.
ROUND 3: * Knit 3, insert a marker-thread in the 2nd of these 3 stitches, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, make 1 yarn over , work from - to end of round = 3 marker-threads and 18 stitches.
ROUND 4: Knit; the yarn overs are knitted twisted.
Continue with stocking stitch and increase 1 stitch on each side of each marker-stitch – read INCREASE TIP (= 6 increased stitches). Allow the marker-threads to follow your work onwards; they are used later when decreasing.
Repeat this increase every 2nd round a total of 12-13-14 times.
When all increases are done, there are 90-96-102 stitches and the hat measures approx. 12-13-14 cm.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
Continue working until the piece measures 55-56-57 cm, approx. 12-13-14 cm remain until finished measurements.
NOTE! It is important to close the hole at the top now. Use a needle, tack the strand through the stitches, tighten and fasten well on the inside. Fasten all strand ends on the wrong side as you go.
Now decrease 1 stitch on each side of each marker-stitch – read DECREASE TIP above (= 6 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 12-13-14 times.
There are 18 stitches left.
Now work as follows:
ROUND 1: * Work to 1 stitch past the marker-stitch, slip 2 stitches together knitwise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitches over the knitted stitch , work from -* to end of round = 12 stitches.
ROUND 2: Knit.
ROUND 3: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6 stitches.
Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten. Fasten the thread so that it can be pulled in on the wrong side and is not visible from the right side. The hat measures approx. 66-68-70 cm.
Push one top inside the other so the hat is double, with stocking stitch both the inside and outside. It can now be used from both sides. Fold up the bottom 10 cm.
