Privacy Policy
Effective October 20, 2026
Yarnia (yarniateams.com and the Yarnia app for Android) is a community for knitters: tutorials, a gallery of work, projects, a yarn stash, questions and answers. This page explains what data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how you can control it.
What we collect
Your account
- When you sign in with Google — your email address, name, profile picture and Google account ID. We never see or receive your Google password.
- Your username and account email; for administrators also a password, stored only as a hash that cannot be turned back into the password.
- Anything you add to your profile yourself: avatar, bio, location, website, interface language.
Your content
Projects, yarn stash, gallery photos, questions, answers and comments, favorites, calculator results. What you publish openly is visible to other visitors; everything else is visible only to you.
Technical data
- A sign-in log: IP address, browser and time of each attempt — to protect accounts from password guessing.
- Your country, derived from your IP address — to show relevant content and block attacks.
Visit statistics
We run our own analytics system; this data is not sent to third-party services. It records pages viewed, clicks, scrolling, errors and a screen recording of the visit, so that we can find what is inconvenient or broken. Anything you type into form fields is hidden in recordings, and sign-in and sign-up pages are not recorded at all. Each visit is stored together with the IP address, country, browser and device, and — for signed-in users — the account number.
Why we use it
- To let you sign in and use your account, projects and stash.
- To send emails you cannot do without: email confirmation and password reset. We send no newsletters.
- To protect the site from break-ins, spam and bots.
- To find and fix errors and make the site easier to use.
We do not sell data, do not show ads and do not share data with advertising networks.
Where it is stored and who can see it
Data is stored on our own servers, and emails are sent by our own mail server. Only Yarnia administrators have access to it. Google is involved only in signing in: it tells us your email and name when you choose “Sign in with Google”. We disclose data to third parties only when the law requires it.
Cookies
- Essential: your sign-in session, form protection (CSRF) and the chosen language.
- Analytics: visit and browser identifiers for visit statistics (_cs_vid, _cs_sid, _cs_int) and a marker that you opted out of them (_cs_optout).
How long we keep it
- Account and content — for as long as the account exists.
- Visit screen recordings — 30 days; visit statistics events — 180 days.
- After an account is deleted, its data is removed within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep longer.
Your rights
- Find out what data we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account with all its data — email us at the address below.
- Revoke Yarnia’s access to your Google account — in your Google Account settings: Security → Third-party apps & services.
- Turn off visit statistics for this browser — with the button below.
Visit statistics are on for this browser.
Visit statistics are off for this browser: your visits are not recorded.
Children
The site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you learn that a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will announce significant changes on the site.
