EASTER EGG - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE

The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, bottom up.
A bow is knitted back and forth, then sewn to the egg.

EASTER EGG

Cast on 12 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and DROPS Belle colour Dandelion/Mauve/Powder Pink, leaving a strand-end of approx. 10 cm for assembly.
Knit 1 round.
Insert 6 markers with 2 stitches between each one.
Work and increase as follows:
ROUND 1: Knit and increase 6 stitches by working 1 yarn over after each marker = 18 stitches.
ROUND 2: Knit, the yarn overs are knitted twisted.

Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 4 times = 36 stitches.
Knit 3 rounds.
Use a needle and tack the strand-end through the cast-on stitches at the beginning of the piece, tighten and fasten the strand to the inside before continuing.
Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Change to colour White (do not cut the previous strand but carry it forward).
Knit 1 round.
Work 3 rounds of MOSS STITCH – read explanation above.
Cut and fasten the White strand to the inside.
Change to colour Dandelion/Mauve/Powder Pink and knit 4 rounds.
Knit 1 more round and decrease 1 stitch at the end of this round by knitting the last 2 stitches together = 35 stitches.
Fill with wadding as you continue.
Insert 5 markers with 7 stitches between each one.
Work and decrease as follows:
ROUND 1: Knit and decrease 5 stitches by knitting 2 together before each marker = 30 stitches.
ROUND 2: Knit.

Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 5 times = 10 stitches. Cut the strand, leaving a strand-end of approx. 15 cm.
Thread the strand-end through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. Use a needle to pull the strand through the top of the egg, leaving a loop of approx. 6 cm to hang the egg with. Fasten the strand.

BOW

Cast on 7 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and colour White, leaving a strand-end of approx. 12 cm. Work MOSS STITCH back and forth – read explanation above, for 3½ cm. Cast off with purl above knit and knit above purl, leaving a strand-end of approx. 12 cm.
The piece is a rectangle, with strand-ends on both of the short sides. Tack the strand-ends along the back of the piece, so they meet in the middle.
Tie the strand-ends together with a double knot, making sure the piece is not tightened. Take the ends in opposite directions back around the middle of the short ends so they meet again mid-back. Tighten the ends and tie a knot. The bow is now finished. Use the ends to sew the bow to mid-top of the egg.
