Hook size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger hook size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller hook size.
CROCHET TENSION
24 double crochets in width and 26 rows in height = 10 x 10 cm.

CHAIN STITCH
If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double crochet is wide.
CROCHET INFORMATION
At the beginning of each row work 1 chain stitch which replaces the first double crochet, i.e. skip the first double crochet and work until there is 1 chain stitch left, finish by working 1 double crochet in this chain stitch.
START THE PIECE HERE
CLOTH – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The cloth is worked back and forth.
CLOTH
Work 60 chain stitches with hook size 3 mm and DROPS Safran - read CHAIN STITCH. Turn and work 1 double crochet in the 2nd chain stitch from the hook, 1 double crochet in each of the next 57 chain stitches = 59 double crochets. Read CROCHET INFORMATION and remember the CROCHET TENSION!
Now work the next row as follows: A.1a over the first 56 stitches (= 14 repeats in width) and finish with the first 3 stitches in A.1a.
Continue by working A.1b over A.1a. Continue this pattern until the piece measures approx.. 24 cm – adjust so you finish after a complete repeat of A.1b.
Work 1 row of A.1c, cut and fasten the strand.
Work 1 cloth in each colour.
