CROCHET TENSION

Hook size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger hook size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller hook size.

CROCHET INFORMATION
At the beginning of each round of double crochets, work 1 chain stitch which replaces the first double crochet (i.e. skip the first double crochet from the previous round). The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round.
CHAIN STITCH
If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double crochet is wide.
INCREASE TIP
Increase 1 double crochet by working 2 double crochets in the same double crochet.
HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE
The piece is worked in the round, top down.
HAT
Work 4 CHAIN STITCHES – read explanation above, with hook size 7 mm and DROPS Andes. Form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch.
ROUND 1: Read CROCHET INFORMATION, work 6 double crochets around the ring.
ROUND 2: Work 2 double crochets in each double crochet = 12 double crochets.
ROUND 3: Work * 1 double crochet in the first/next double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet , work from - to end of round = 18 double crochets.
ROUND 4: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 2 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet , work from - to end of round = 24 double crochets. REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION!
ROUND 5: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 3 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet , work from - to end of round = 30 double crochets.
ROUND 6: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 4 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet , work from - to end of round = 36 double crochets.
ROUND 7: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 5 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet , work from - to end of round = 42 double crochets.
ROUND 8: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 6 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet , work from - to end of round = 48 double crochets.
ROUND 9: Work * 1 double crochet in each double crochet and increase 1-3-5 double crochets evenly on the round - read INCREASE TIP = 49-51-53 double crochets.
Then work 1 double crochet in each double crochet until the hat measures 13-14-15 cm from the top.
Now work 1 double crochet in the back loop of each double crochet for 3 rounds. Work 1 round with 1 double crochet worked normally in each double crochet. Then work 1 round with 1 double crochet in the back loop of each double crochet. The piece measures approx. 16-17-18 cm from the top.
BRIM
ROUND 1: Work 1 double crochet, then * 2 double crochets in the first/next double crochet, 1 double crochet in the first/next double crochet , work from -* to end of round = 73-76-79 double crochets.
ROUNDS 2-3: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet.
ROUND 4: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet and increase 7-9-11 double crochets evenly on the round = 80-85-90 double crochets.
Continue with 1 double crochet in each double crochet until the piece measures 22-23-24 cm from the top. The last round is worked as follows: 1 slip stitch in the back loop of each double crochet. Cut and fasten the strand.
