Finished size
Hat body 26″, brim 19″ (stretchy), height 8.5″
Materials
- Yarn Bee Tender Touch (100% acrylic, 135 yds per 3oz)* approx. 200 yds required (shown in Coral)
- Suggested hook sizes: 7.5mm (larger hook) and J-10 [6mm] (smaller hook)
- Needle (for weaving ends and seaming brim)
Notes
Hat is worked top-down, in joined rounds, brim is applied once the hat body is finished.
Initial ch-2 at the beginning of each Popcorn round does not count as a stitch.
Gauge
After round 2, approx. 4″
After round 4, approx. 7.5″
After round 9, approx. 10″
Special Stitches
Popcorn (pop): Make 4 complete dc in space indicated, lift up the loop slightly of the last dc, remove hook, insert hook in first dc, pull slightly lifted loop through, tighten slightly.
Crochet Pattern Instructions
Rnd 1: With larger hook, ch 4, sl st to first ch to form a ring, ch 2, [pop, ch 2] 6 times, sl st to first pop: 6 pop, separated by 2 ch each.
Rnd 2: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch-2, [pop, ch 2, pop, ch 2] in each ch-2 sp, sl st to first pop: 12 pop, separated by 2 ch each.
Rnd 3: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch-2, [pop, ch 2, pop, ch 2] in same ch-2 sp, *[pop, ch 2] in next ch-2 sp, [pop, ch 2, pop, ch 2] in next ch-2 sp, rep from * to last ch-2 sp, [pop, ch 2] in last ch-2 sp, sl st to first pop: 18 pop, separated by 2 ch each.
Rnd 4: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch-2, [pop, ch 2, pop, ch 2] in same ch-2 sp, *[(pop, ch 2) in next ch-2 sp] twice, [pop, ch 2, pop, ch 2] in next ch-2 sp, rep from * to last 2 ch-2 sps, [(pop, ch 2) in next ch-2 sp] twice, sl st to first pop: 24 pop, separated by 2 ch each.
Rnd 5: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch-2, [pop, ch 2, pop, ch 2] in same ch-2 sp, *[(pop, ch 2) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, [pop, ch 2, pop, ch 2] in next ch-2 sp, rep from * to last 3 ch-2 sps, [(pop, ch 2) in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, sl st to first pop: 30 pop, separated by 2 ch each.
Rnd 6: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch-2, [pop, ch 2] in each ch-2 sp around, sl st to first pop: 30 pop, separated by 2 ch each.
Rnds 7-8: Rep rnd 6.
Rnd 9: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same ch-2 sp, 3 sc in each remaining ch-2 sp around, sl st to first sc, do not fasten off: 90 sc.
Brim
Row 1: (Still attached to hat, ribbing is worked vertically along stitches of hat.) With smaller hook, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook and in next 4 ch, on hat body sk 2 sc from round 9, sl st in next sc of round 9, turn ribbing.
Row 2: Working in back loops only, sc in 5 sc, turn ribbing.
Row 3: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in 5 sc, on hat body sk 1 sc from round 9, sl st in next sc of round 9, turn ribbing.
Repeat rows 2-3 until all sc used from round 9, fasten off.
Finishing
With yarn needle, seam Brim. Weave in all ends securely.
