Technique: Regular Crochet
Materials
- 2 colors aran weight yarn used in sample for one square (“With Love” by Red Heart)*
- Crochet Hook Size H-8 [5mm]
*In these squares, color “aran” used as the beginning color and is designated as A. Secondary color choice is designated as B. Any colors of your choice can be used.
Size
Approximately 6 inches, but can be changed based on yarn, tension and hook size choices.
Special Stitches
Small Shell (SmShell): working in space indicated, [sc, ch 2, sc].
Large Shell (LgShell): working in space indicated, [sc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, sc].
Notes
Project is worked entirely in the round, without turning.
Round 1: Ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form a circle, ch 1, [sc in circle, ch 7, sc in circle, ch 2] 4 times, sl st to first sc, fasten off A.
Round 2: Join B with sl st to any ch-2 sp, ch 1, keeping ch-7 loops to front of work and skipping throughout, LgShell in same ch-2 sp, LgShell in each rem ch-2 sp, sl st to first sc.
Round 3: Sl st into ch-2 sp after joining, ch 1, SmShell in same ch-2 sp, SmShell in next ch-2 sp, ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hook, [SmShell in next 2 ch-2 sps, ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hook] 3 times, sl st to first sc, fasten off B.
Round 4: Join A with sl st in any ch-2 sp following a ch-7 loop, ch 1, LgShell in same ch-2 sp, LgShell in next ch-2 sp, keeping ch-7 loops to front of work and skipping throughout, LgShell in each rem ch-2 sp, sl st to first sc.
Round 5: Sl st into ch-2 sp after joining, ch 1, SmShell in same ch-2 sp, SmShell in next 3 ch-2 sps, ch 5, sl st to 5th ch from hook, [SmShall in next 4 ch-2 sps, ch 5, sl st to 5th ch from hook] 3 times, sl st to first sc, fasten off A.
Beginning in the center of square, interlock ch-7 loops of rounds 2 and 4, then the ch-5 loop of round 5.
Round 6: Join B with sl st in any ch-5 loop of corner, ch 3, 4 dc in same loop of corner, 3 hdc in next ch-2 sp, 3 sc in next 2 ch-2 sps, 3 hdc in next ch-2 sp, [5 dc in next ch-5 loop of corner, 3 hdc in next ch-2 sp, 3 sc in next 2 ch-2 sps, 3 hdc in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, sl st to top of beg ch-3.
Round 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in next dc, 3 sc in next dc, sc in each rem st around, with 3 sc in each 3rd dc of corner, sl st to first sc, fasten off B.
