COLOURS
Chicken with ice blue/peach edge
Cast on and 1st round: off white / peach
2nd round: strong yellow / dark heather
3rd round: peach / ice blue
4th round: off white/off white
5th round: dark heather / strong yellow
6th round: yellow/off white
7th round: off white/yellow
8th round: ice blue/peach
CROCHET INFO
Replace first dc at beg of every dc round with 1 ch. Finish every round with 1 sl st in ch from beg of round.
Replace first htr at beg of every htr round with 2 ch. Finish round with 1 sl st in first htr at beg of round.
CROCHET 2 HTR TOG:
Work 2 htr into 1 htr as follows: Make 1 YO, insert hook in next st, pull thread through, make 1 YO, insert hook in same st, pull thread through, make 1 YO and pull thread through all 5 sts on hook.
COLOUR CHANGE TIP: 1
To get a nice transition between the colour changes, work last sl st on round with the new colour as follows: Insert hook in 1st/2nd ch from beg of round, get the new yarn, make a YO with the new colour and pull it through st on hook.
COLOUR CHANGE TIP 2:
Fasten the threads after every colour change by letting the thread from previous row be worked in the piece a bit before cutting it off and fastening it (work with the new colour around the previous colour).
CHICKEN
Worked in the round. Work according to diagram A.1, i.e. work as follows:
Work 4 ch on hook size 3 mm - READ COLOURS and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch - READ COLOUR CHANGE TIP 1 and 2.
ROUND 1: READ CROCHET INFO! Work 6 dc in ch-ring.
ROUND 2: Work 2 dc in every dc the entire round = 12 dc.
ROUND 3: 2 HTR TOG – see explanation above, in first dc, 1 ch, 2 htr tog in same dc, 1 ch, skip 1 dc, * 2 htr tog in next dc, 1 ch, 2 htr tog in same dc, 1 ch, skip 1 dc * repeat from - the entire round = 12 htr groups and 12 ch.
ROUND 4: 3 dc in every ch-space the entire round = 36 dc.
ROUND 5: 1 dc in every dc the entire round. REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION!
ROUND 6: 1 dc in each of the first 2 dc, 2 ch, skip 1 dc, * 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 ch, skip 1 dc , repeat from - the entire round = 24 dc and 12 ch-spaces.
ROUND 7: 2 dc in first ch-space, 2 ch, 2 dc in same ch-space, * 2 dc in next ch-space, 2 ch, 2 dc in same ch-space , repeat from - the entire round = 12 dc-spaces with ch-space between.
ROUNDS WITH STRAP AND HEAD
ROUND 8: Skip 2 dc, 6 dc in first ch-space, * skip 2 dc, 1 dc in space before the next 2 dc, 6 dc in next ch-space , repeat from -* 7 more times, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in space before the next 2 dc, 3 dc in next ch-space, 30 ch for strap, fasten with 1 sl st in first of the 30 ch, 3 dc in same ch-space, skip 2 dc, switch to off white with 1 sl st between space before the next 2 dc, then work head as follows: skip 2 dc + 1 ch-space + 2 dc, work 11 dtr in space before the next 2 dc, skip 2 dc + 1 ch-space + 2 dc, work 1 dc in space before the next 2 dc. Fasten off.
COMB AND BEAK
ROW 9: Work comb with dark heather as follows: 1 sl st in last dc with ice blue/peach from 8th round, work 1 picot (= 3 ch, 1 htr in first ch), * skip 1 dtr, 1 dc in next dtr, 1 picot , repeat from -* 1 more times, skip 1 dtr, 1 sl st in next dtr. Fasten off. Work beak with strong yellow as follows: 1 sl st in next dtr, skip 1 dtr, in next dtr work 3 htr + 1 ch + 3 htr, skip 1 dtr, 1 sl st in next dtr. Fasten off.
ASSEMBLY
Embroider on the eye with some left-over brown yarn with 3 stitches through the 2 dtr between the comb and beak.
